A great website on packing from the Ochs, Darrel & Kathy: http://www.onebag.com/. It has some great ideas on what to pack, what to pack it in and how to pack it. It has links to other sites, one of which you tell it where you are going and for how long and it creates a packing list for you.
Kathy and I started printing the safari book today. Not that it will necessarily be right for the whole time, but it will provide some interesting reading material, maps and places to take a few notes.
I did hear from Brother Francis this morning. If the weather holds and the roads don't turn to mud, we will be able to do the Samburu>Marsabit>Turkana>Maralal portion of the safari. We have so many alternate plans in place, I even get confused. I don't know why I over prepare, it never does any good. Kenya just happens. You will understand the first time we have to queue for anything. Just leave your linear thinking at home!
We have also worked out the train schedule for those of us going on to Mombasa. Another adventure. Just think "Out of Africa" it is the same train...not from the movie, the original train I think, ditto the sheets, the dining room silver and the waiters uniforms. I think of it as patina. Also for the "three-weekers" I had another inspiration...to drive from Amboseli to Mombasa and stay overnight at Tsavo West. I haven't heard back on that one, but I am trying to keep us from backtracking back to Nairobi, although it will deprive me of one last chance to haggle with the Maasai ladies. But once on any Kenyan road is enough.
I will try answer any questions anyone has via the blog. This seems to be a good way to keep everyone on the same page.
